In the 1880s, the phone companies started switching over from wooden wall phones to metal desk phones that were shaped like candlesticks. Originally, operators were needed to complete a phone call, but rotary dials became common in the Roaring Twenties.
Despite the ancient outward appearance, the internal electronics are modern, and the phone can be connected to a standard modular phone jack. Tone/pulse switch. Flash. Redial. Ringer volume ON/OFF switch. Receiver volume control.
